Remember: a runner should do abs and lower back exercises
Abs and lower back, the forgotten muscles in athletics.
There are some muscles that we forget, or are too lazy to strengthen when we play sports. We are talking about the abs, lower back, and glutes. Our Alicante Club coach Nico Tucci tells us about the importance of training our core. And he shows us a few exercises to strengthen the central part of our body.
The Importance of Strengthening the Trunk in Athletics

Nico recommends strengthening the middle part of our body (abs and lower back). This will benefit us by providing better posture when running. We must have this area strengthened to avoid many injuries. Since athletics is a sport of repeated impacts (foot strikes), this affects our entire upper body. Our coach makes this suggestion to people who are starting to train.
Do abs three days a week for about 15 minutes each day. You can start with 2 sets of 15 repetitions for each exercise. We have infinite exercises; we can choose whichever we want, always trying to alternate between different parts.
Below we leave you a video from Nico with different exercises to strengthen the upper and lower abdomen, the core, the lower back, and the glutes.
Importance of Core Strengthening in Injury Prevention
Strengthening the core, which includes the abs, lower back, and glutes, is crucial for preventing sports injuries. These muscles stabilize the spine, improve force transfer, and reduce the load on joints, thus promoting safer and more effective athletic performance.
