Reasons to run the Trail Solidari Ciutat d’Alcoi

Almost a week after the trail…

"</p

Almost a week has passed. We've had time to reflect as finishers of the Trail Solidari Ciutat d’Alcoi 2016. We've likely thought, on more than one occasion, about why we would run this peculiar competition again and also why we wouldn't (if we said otherwise, we'd be lying).

But let's be positive. Why, after completing 55 kilometers of running, or, to put it another way, 55,000m – sounds daunting when you think of it like that, doesn't it? – with its 2,600m of elevation gain or more than 5,000m of accumulated ascent, or the more than 9h and 30min it takes teams on average to complete it, or the more than 2,000 calories ingested during the race, or the more than 5 liters of water and isotonic drinks consumed… do you get that "tingle" that makes you think about signing up for the next edition again? Curious, isn't it?

From my perspective as a trail runner, my thoughts may or may not align with yours, and I'm sure we'll disagree on some points, but I've tried to gather a good "bag" of sporting, social, competitive, and personal reasons why I will indeed run again in the fantastic Trail Solidari Ciutat d’Alcoi 2017:

I will return because I was part of a whole, of a team, and that gave me strength…
I will return because I was part of a dream solidified by three more "crazy" people…
I will return because it made me feel important…
I will return because its circuit is wonderfully beautiful…
I will return because I ran thinking of others…
I will return because, thanks to it, I am a better friend to my friends…
I will return because I trained for half a year telling myself: "I have to be worthy of my three teammates, I have to do it, I have to do it"…
I will return because they took care of me…
I will return because I took care of them and they made me feel: I am needed…

I will run again!
