Preguntas frecuentes al comprar zapatillas y complementos de running

Frequently asked questions when buying running shoes and accessories

Every day, customers or beginner runners come to the store with the same existential doubts when buying running shoes and accessories. Therefore, we want to clarify and inform about these frequently asked questions.

These " typical/topical " issues that are currently in vogue, and on which we offer our expert opinion.

With this, we hope to help especially new runners who are just starting out in running, so they can enjoy their passion for accumulating kilometers even more.

Are COMPRESSION socks effective?

Our answer is clear: Yes, and it's proven. However, to be honest, they don't cure any type of injury on their own. Nor do they prevent other factors of neglect (such as wearing incorrect footwear, not being physically well-prepared, etc.) from causing injuries that then magically heal overnight.

The primary objective of using compression socks is to increase blood return. This helps oxygenate and reduces muscle strain, thus achieving a less aggressive level of effort. In addition, recovery is faster.

They also provide support, reducing vibration between muscles and joints, thus achieving a greater sense of comfort.

Does a totally mixed shoe for trail running (mountain) and asphalt exist?

When we talk about a "totally mixed" shoe, we mean one that can give us 100% performance on both terrains. In this case, our answer is also clear: NO, it does not exist.

Regarding the usual doubt raised by runners who train or compete on both asphalt and mountain, we can only say one thing: they should have specific technical shoes for each terrain. With this, you also avoid risking unwanted problems.

Wearing and interchanging the same shoe for both distinct modalities implies that neither the grip, traction, nor stiffness will be adequate in one of the two disciplines. The only thing we will achieve is to shorten the lifespan of the shoes and, even worse, risk suffering an injury, or even a fall on complicated terrain, if we are not wearing the appropriate technical footwear.

Do all shoes have gel or air chambers?

No, not at all. Each brand uses its own patented cushioning, stability, and support system. This is not better or worse, but different. Each running shoe manufacturer has its own system.

On the other hand, similar compounds can be used, and even applied technologies can be shared (such as Vibram or Gore-Tex, especially in trail shoes). But, as we say, every "parent" has their "child" 😉

Is there a noticeable difference when using technical running socks?

It's not just noticeable; it's a matter of vital importance. It's the point of contact where the big difference lies, in matters as important for health as preventing blisters, chafing, burned soles of the feet, and even the famous and dreaded black toenails.

"Is there a noticeable difference when using technical running socks?"

If, as a good runner, you wear more than adequate shoes and pay close attention to their selection, why not wear socks of the same caliber?

Additional advantages of using technical running socks:

– Maximum breathability to prevent sweat accumulation and potential bacteria.

– Correct size adjustment, leading to maximum comfort.

– There are compression socks with support points, and even some with more internal reinforcement to provide the necessary stability for runners who need it.

– And we could go on and on, but we are sure you are already convinced that technical socks are a must-have.
