¿Cómo se cuentan los puntos en pádel?

How are points scored in padel?

When we start playing, it seems that just by passing the ball from one side to the other, we feel satisfied. And for the moment, how the points are counted is not important.

But the moment we start to master the strokes and keep the ball in play, we must start trying to make it difficult for the opponent and try to win the point.

We will need to look for more cunning shots and, of course, we need to learn to count.

The match begins

When a pair wins their first point, "15" will be called. Upon winning their second point, "30" will be called. Upon winning their third point, "40" will be called, and with the fourth point won, "game" will be called, except if both pairs have won three points, in which case the score is called "deuce".

The next point is called "advantage" in favor of the winner, and if they win again, they are awarded the game. If they lose it, it would go back to "deuce". And so on until one of the participants has won two consecutive points.

We reach the end of the first game or set

The pair that first wins 6 games, always with a minimum lead of 2, will win the set. In case of a 5-5 tie, two more games must be played, until winning by 7-5, but if there is a 6-6 tie, the "tie-break" or tie-breaker will be applied. Matches are usually played best of three sets. That is, the pair that first wins two sets will win.

Sudden death

Another doubt you might have is how the tie-break is played. The tie-break is a tie-breaking game, in which the serve, which is considered an advantage, must alternate between the two pairs. The pair that first reaches 7 points, with a difference of two, wins it.

"1", "2", "3", etc. will be called, and the pair that wins it will win the set by 7-6.

The "tie break" will start with the player whose turn it is to serve according to the order followed in the set, and they will serve from the right side of their court, playing only one point.

Then, always respecting the aforementioned serving order, two points will be played, starting from the left side, and so on.

In the next set, a player from the pair that did not start serving the "tie break" will start serving.

Time to practice!
