Hoka Cielo X MD Track and Field Spikes

When you think about spiked shoes, the Hoka brand might not bring many examples to mind…

But now they have just launched a spiked shoe for track and field events. And those maximalist ideas should be reserved for running shoes.

We are writing this article because they are very innovative and, for now, are little known among amateur athletes.

Differences from other spiked shoes

It is one of the very few shoes with a carbon fiber plate in the midsole.

On the outsole, there is an almost complete Pebax plate running along the entire sole. Normally, this plate is only in the front half of the shoes. In the Hoka Cielo, it surrounds almost the entire outsole.

They comply with the necessary World Athletics guidelines to compete with them in official athletics events.

Hoka Cielo X MD Features

Hoka's website states they only weigh 128 gr. But in a video where they were weighed, the scale showed 143 gr., although it was a size 44.5. We don't believe that a 15 gr difference would deter anyone. Especially considering they might have weighed two different sizes.

The upper and tongue are made of technical mesh. You can see in the image that it is very breathable due to all the micro-perforations it has, which also contributes to making it lighter.

The upper's design promotes airflow to improve ventilation.

It features an unshaped EVA internal insole.

The midsole is CMEVA with a carbon fiber plate.

The drop is 4 mm. Looking at the back, you can see that they have some cushioning in the heel for more comfortable medium-distance running on the tartan track.

The early-stage Meta-Rocker shape makes your stride smoother and faster.

Athletes who can use the Hoka Cielo X MD

These are spiked shoes designed for middle-distance track and field events, from 800m to 3,000m.
