Fancy dress running races

In this article, we'll tell you about some costume running races around the world. We'll also give you some tips on how to run and enjoy it to the fullest.

Carnival is Here

There are many ways to experience it: in your city, or in fantastic places like Cádiz, Tenerife, Brazil...

But at Be Urban Running, we're going to propose a different way to combine this universal celebration with running.

Taking advantage of the fact that people dress up during Carnival, we're going to discuss:

  • How to run in a costume without getting exhausted
  • The different races where runners participate in costumes.

Why Run in a Costume

Because you sign up for a San Silvestre race, and almost everyone is in costume.

Because you made a promise, or you made one to someone else.

Because you're a true fan of a comic, movie, or TV character... Whether it's a human character or a cartoon.

By imitation. Because you saw someone in costume and said to yourself, "I have to do that."

Running in a running costume is great. It adds color and joy to popular races. But here are some tips for running in a costume so you don't end up exhausted or injured.

Tips for Running in a Costume

1.- Choose a fabric that is as breathable as possible and avoid materials that chafe your skin. Remember that if you're dressed as a rabbit, you'll sweat twice as much as in a race without a costume.

2.- Running with a mask can be suffocating. Also, check if you can drink with the mask during the race or if you'll have to stop.

3.- Do some training in that running costume before the competition. It might be that half your costume falls off after three kilometers.

4.- If you go with a group of friends, you'll have a much better time.

5.- You need to check that you don't get too hot, that you can move well, that it doesn't chafe you at a specific point on your body...

6.- Can your running costume get wet? You should keep in mind that there are races that pass in front of a fire station where they "water" the runners.

7.- Are you friendly? You might receive a lot of comments... Wearing a costume can help you connect with a lot of strangers or conduct a psychological experiment on how other runners react.

8.- It's most likely that from the middle of the competition onwards, people will support you more, to encourage you for the extra effort of wearing a costume.

9.- And if they tell you you're crazy... does anyone know you?

10.- Run at your own pace, as in your training or other competitions you participate in. And remember that it's probably not a race to set a personal best, but to enjoy it as much as possible.
