It seems that On Running is stepping away from the carbon plate shoe trend; with their latest release, they want to send the message that what truly makes a shoe reactive is the foam in the midsole. The On Cloudmonster Hyper is a revolution in the world of running.
It has been proven that the carbon plate helps runners, but this is mainly for faster runners. Runners who don't maintain such high paces during a race don't get enough benefit from this component of the shoe.
That's why the Swiss brand On has released a model with the same compound used in their competition shoe, but without their famous Speedboard. They've done this to help faster athletes with their long training runs, as well as more popular runners on race days.
We are talking about the new On Cloudmonster Hyper, a model developed in collaboration with the brand's athletes, so they could train harder without getting injured.
Key Features
The main objective when designing this model was to create a protective and cushioned shoe that also offered great energy return. How did they achieve this? They did so by combining their CloudTec technology with their Helion HF hyperfoam, the same compound used, for example, in their competition model Cloudboom Echo 3.
The first technology provides excellent cushioning and impact absorption, while the foam located in the forefoot will deliver the reactivity sought in a shoe of these characteristics.
To lighten the shoe's weight and enable faster recovery after demanding workouts, they have eliminated the famous Speedboard used in other models.
The upper of the Cloudmonster Hyper is made from microfiber, with 85% recycled polyester. This results in a breathable shoe with a very good fit to the foot. The latter is also thanks to its silicone laces and reinforced eyelets.
The sole no longer features the grooves that characterized previous On models. This will eliminate the problem of stones getting stuck in the sole's grooves while running.
The On Cloudmonster Hyper weighs 272g and has a 6mm drop.
Which Runners Will Enjoy This Model the Most?
Here, we could differentiate between two types of runners. The first would be a more experienced runner who maintains high paces during races and competes with carbon-plated shoes. For this runner, it would be the perfect model for long training runs.
The other type of runner for whom these On Cloudmonster Hyper will be a great fit is the runner who doesn't maintain high enough paces in races to warrant a carbon plate. This model will be perfect for them to run a marathon or half marathon, as it will provide excellent cushioning and, at the same time, great reactivity.
