Hoka Mafate X, maximum comfort for ultra-distance races
Hoka launches a new model designed for those who enjoy getting lost for hours (or days) in the mountains. The new Mafate X are not just any shoes: they are robust, comfortable, and feature a rather maximalist design that directly targets long-distance runners. But it's not just the midsole profile that makes them special; it's the carbon plate integrated into the midsole to give an extra touch of responsiveness during the run.
What makes these Hoka Mafate X special?
The first thing that stands out is their high profile. With 49 mm at the heel and 41 mm at the forefoot, these Mafate X indicate that we will have extra cushioning. But it's not just a matter of volume. Hoka has combined different technologies to achieve a comfortable, fluid stride with a surprising touch of responsiveness.
The Hoka Mafate X feature a dual-density midsole. In the upper part, we find a layer of PEBA, which is softer and more reactive. Just below, a firmer supercritical EVA base provides greater durability and stability. Between both layers, we find the crown jewel: a bifurcated carbon plate. This structure not only provides extra propulsion with each stride but also adds responsiveness and extra stability. This is all complemented by a smooth MetaRocker geometry, designed to provide fluidity from the first stride.
As expected, these Hoka Mafate X feature a Vibram Megagrip outsole. The lugs are 3 mm, placed in four strips at the front and two at the back, just enough to offer grip without sacrificing fluidity on more compact terrain.
For greater foot support, the Mafate X have added a TPU heel counter and reinforcements in the forefoot area, perfect for protecting against rocks. In addition, the padded collar gently wraps the ankle, preventing chafing and providing greater foot comfort during kilometers.
However, they are not lightweight shoes: 344 grams and an 8 mm drop.

Where will these Mafate X perform well?
These Mafate X are designed for what their design screams: kilometers and kilometers of mountains. They are ideal for ultra-distance races or long training sessions where comfort is paramount. The high profile, generous cushioning, and moderate lug sole make them perfect for compact and not very technical terrains.
What runner profile suits the Hoka Mafate X?
The Hoka Mafate X are designed for runners who prioritize comfort, protection, and durability. They are great for heavier runners, or for those who, regardless of their build, want to protect their joints on long runs.
They are also a great option for ultra-runners or for those preparing for demanding races and needing a shoe that can withstand the training.
And yes, the Hoka Mafate X are now available in our physical stores and website. Get ready to try something different on your next outings.
